Situation
Turriers is an extremely picturesque hill-top village, situated in the north of the department of Alpes de Haute Provence, between Sisteron and Lac Serre Ponçon (click How to get there). It is a completely rural location in splendid mountain scenery.
A former farmhouse, “Le Maurier” is in a series of buildings on a promontory leading out from the village of Turriers. In close proximity with other houses, the location is nevertheless extremely quiet. There are splendid views from all parts of the house to the surrounding forests and farmland and the Mid- and High Alps.
There are good
facilities: a baker directly opposite the house, a butcher/general store, a restaurant and 3 café bars, plus a twice-daily bus
service to Sisteron. There is a large supermarket within 15 mins’
drive; likewise medical facilities. Turriers has a sports centre, including a
playground for children, and there are attractive nearby locations for
swimming and adventure sports.
Get
fresh milk straight from the farm at milking time! Other delicious local
produce (organic vegetables, fruit, goat’s cheese, honey, lamb) available
from the surrounding farms or on local markets.
This
zone is remarkable for the exceptional purity of the air and great richness
of plants, insects and wildlife. Walk all day in the clear air with long
views over mountain ranges, or settle down with your camera to make an
amazing collection of wildflowers or butterflies!
Turriers! What better base to explore this little known but exceptionally beautiful part of Provence.
